Heritage Nexus Museums Collective is seeking a strategic and dynamic Museum Operations Manager to oversee daily operations across our cultural venues in New York. This leadership role partners with curatorial teams to ensure seamless exhibition delivery, robust collections care, visitor services excellence, and sound financial management.
In this role you will coordinate facilities, security, registration, education programs, and vendor relationships; implement process improvements; and advance accessibility and sustainability initiatives to serve diverse audiences and communities.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily museum operations across facilities, security, visitor services, registration, and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth, visitor-centered experiences.
- Collaborate with curators, registrars, and external partners to plan, install, and deinstall exhibitions and loan management processes.
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets, monitor key performance indicators, and optimize resource allocation for maximum impact.
- Lead health and safety, risk management, and compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
- Drive digital initiatives, audience engagement, education programs, accessibility enhancements, and inclusive practices.
- Manage vendor relationships, procurement, facilities maintenance contracts, and capital project coordination.
- Foster high-performing teams through talent development, performance management, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Represent the institution in community outreach and stakeholder engagement efforts to strengthen mission alignment.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in museum studies, arts management, history, archaeology, or related field; master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of museum operations, administration, or related experience with progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated financial acumen with experience budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills across diverse teams and partners.
- Knowledge of collections care, condition reporting, loan processes, registrar workflows, and risk management.
- Experience in visitor services, education programs, accessibility, DEI practices, and audience development.
- Proficiency with museum management software, data analytics, and digital communications tools.
- Ability to manage multiple sites or venues, travel for events, and respond to emergencies with composure.
