Job description
The Heritage Gallery in Boston seeks a dynamic Museum Operations Manager to lead daily operations, exhibitions, and visitor experience. This role partners with curators, educators, conservation teams, and external collaborators to ensure exceptional museum experiences that are accessible, safe, and sustainable.
You will drive strategic planning, oversee facilities, security, and visitor services, and champion inclusive programming that broadens community access to our collection.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily museum operations including facilities, security, visitor services, and safety protocols.
- Lead end-to-end exhibition planning and project management from concept through installation and deinstallation.
- Develop and manage annual departmental budgets, schedules, and reporting; collaborate with development for fundraising initiatives.
- Manage, mentor, and develop staff and volunteers; set performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility, safety, and regulatory standards; coordinate emergency planning and risk management.
- Coordinate with curators, educators, conservators, and external partners to deliver engaging programs and events.
- Drive audience development and community outreach to expand museum attendance and impact.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Art History, Anthropology, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- 5+ years of museum operations or management experience in a cultural institution.
- Proven experience with project management, budgeting, and vendor coordination.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with collection management systems (e.g., TMS, PastPerfect, Adlib) is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety, accessibility, and regulatory standards; ability to implement best practices in preservation and storage.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
