Job description

PackPro Innovations is seeking a results-oriented Packaging Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Chicago. This role focuses on designing, validating, and optimizing packaging solutions for our consumer products, balancing performance, cost, and sustainability.

You will collaborate with R&D, supply chain, and production to bring packaging concepts from ideation to scalable production, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Responsibility

  • Lead design and optimization of packaging for new and existing products, ensuring protection, performance, and cost targets across the product life cycle.
  • Collaborate with R&D, sourcing, and manufacturing to implement packaging solutions that meet speed to market and sustainability goals.
  • Develop and validate packaging materials, specifications, and test protocols; manage validation documentation and change control.
  • Perform design for manufacturability (DFM) analyses and drive cost reductions through material substitutions and process improvements.
  • Oversee packaging line trials, sampling, testing (vibration, drop, compression), and performance validation.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, labeling accuracy, and alignment with corporate sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage supplier relationships for packaging materials; assess new vendors and negotiate terms.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-6 years of packaging development or engineering experience in consumer goods or life sciences.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials (flexible films, corrugated, cartons), packaging machinery, and validation methods.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and packaging design software; experience with prototyping and testing.
  • Familiarity with quality systems (GMP/ISO 9001) and regulatory considerations relevant to packaging.
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Data-driven mindset with strong communication, planning, and organizational abilities.
