Job description
Samtec Asia Pacific is seeking a proactive Plating Production Supervisor to lead the plating line on the assigned shift at our Johor Bahru site. In this role you will ensure on time production of high quality metal finishes, while protecting people, equipment and the environment. You will mentor a team of plating technicians, coordinate with QA, Engineering and Maintenance, and drive adherence to standard operating procedures and safety standards. As a Plating Production Supervisor you will own daily shift responsibilities including start up, line balance, throughput, yield and defect reduction. You will monitor bath chemistry, plating parameters and equipment condition, perform quick containment when deviations occur, and coordinate maintenance activities. You will champion 5S, waste minimization, and environmental health and safety compliance to sustain a clean, safe and compliant production area.
Your success will depend on strong communication, disciplined documentation and data driven decision making. You will lead root cause investigations for process nonconformities and implement practical corrective actions with measurable improvements. You will partner with QA, Engineering and Supply Chain to improve process capability, reduce cycle times, and support new product introductions. Responsibility
- Lead and supervise plating operations on the assigned shift, ensuring production plans are met and quality standards are achieved.
- Coach and manage plating technicians, assign tasks, review performance, and support problem solving on the line.
- Monitor plating bath chemistry, process parameters, and equipment status; initiate preventive maintenance and escalate issues as needed.
- Ensure correct handling of chemicals, waste management, and compliance with health, safety and environmental policies.
- Implement process controls, SOPs, and 5S principles to improve yield, reduce defects, and increase overall efficiency.
- Collaborate with QA, Engineering and Maintenance to investigate nonconformities and implement corrective actions with measurable results.
- Maintain accurate production records, batch logs, and shift handover documentation to support traceability and audits.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and participate in project work that enhances productivity and safety.
Qualification
- Diploma or degree in Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience in plating or metal finishing, preferably in electronics, automotive, or precision manufacturing.
- Solid knowledge of plating processes, chemistry, equipment, and safety practices; familiarity with bath management and waste handling.
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate teams.
- Excellent problem solving and root cause analysis capabilities; experience with RCA tools (5 Whys, 8D).
- Proficiency in reading process documentation, work orders, and using MES/ERP systems; data-driven mindset.
- Effective communication in English and Malay; ability to coordinate cross functional teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Committed to safety, quality and continuous improvement; flexible to work on rotating shifts as required.
