Responsibility
- Patrol assigned beats to deter crime and ensure public safety for residents and visitors.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls; assess situations and administer appropriate interventions.
- Enforce laws, issue citations, and make arrests in accordance with due process and department policy.
- Prepare accurate, detailed reports; maintain records and provide testimony in court when required.
- Engage with communities to build trust, deliver crime prevention programs, and address quality-of-life concerns.
- Coordinate with detectives and other agencies on investigations; participate in search and rescue or special operations as assigned.
- Conduct traffic enforcement, accident investigations, and safety inspections to promote road safety.
Qualification
- Age 21 or older; U.S. citizen or lawful status to work in the United States; valid driver's license.
- High school diploma or GED (college coursework or degree is a plus).
- Ability to pass written exam, physical fitness test, medical and psychological evaluations, and a thorough background investigation.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and de-escalation skills; integrity and ethical conduct.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays; willingness to be assigned to different precincts as needed.
- Basic computer proficiency; firearms safety and handling training is preferred or must complete academy or POST-certified eligibility.
- Bilingual abilities or prior community policing experience are assets.
