Responsibility
- Patrol assigned beats to deter crime and maintain public order while engaging with community members in a respectful manner.
- Respond to emergency calls, assess situations, and coordinate rapid, safe responses with appropriate units.
- Conduct initial investigations, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and document findings in clear, accurate reports.
- Prepare comprehensive incident and use-of-force reports; maintain proper evidence handling and chain of custody.
- Collaborate with detectives, traffic units, schools, and community organizations to address safety concerns.
- Enforce laws and traffic regulations using professional judgment and de-escalation techniques to minimize risk.
- Utilize modern policing technologies, databases, and field interview techniques to support investigative efforts.
- Promote community trust by engaging with residents and businesses in a transparent, respectful manner.
Qualification
- High school diploma or equivalent; preferred associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field.
- Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to pass a rigorous background check.
- Successful completion of a police academy or field training program; eligibility to obtain certification in Illinois.
- Strong ethical standards, sound judgment, and commitment to constitutional rights and fair treatment.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities; capable of remaining calm under pressure.
- Proficiency in report writing, data entry, and basic computer systems; familiarity with police software is a plus.
- Physical fitness to meet demanding job requirements and a commitment to ongoing training and fitness testing.
