Job description
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Computational Biology at the Cambridge Institute of Biomedical Research. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary projects in genomics, machine learning, and systems biology. This is a full-time, funded role for 2+ years with competitive benefits. The lab values collaboration, curiosity, and rigorous scientific practice. Start date negotiable.
Key responsibilities and opportunities include close collaboration with computational and wet-lab teams, developing scalable data pipelines, and translating discoveries into publishable insights.
Responsibility
- Design and implement computational analyses for genomics, transcriptomics, and systems biology data.
- Develop and validate predictive models using Python, R, and high-performance computing resources.
- Collaborate with wet-lab teams to translate experimental results into computational insights.
- Build and maintain reproducible data pipelines, documentation, and version-controlled workflows.
- Analyze large-scale datasets (NGS, single-cell, population genomics) and generate actionable findings.
- Prepare manuscripts, present results at seminars, and contribute to grant writing as needed.
- Mentor and train graduate students and research staff on methods and best practices.
Qualification
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, or a closely related field.
- Strong programming experience in Python and R; proficient with Linux and HPC environments.
- Hands-on experience with genomic data (NGS, RNA-seq, single-cell) and associated tools.
- Familiarity with machine learning methods, statistics, and data visualization.
- Track record of independent scientific research and publications; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines.
- Experience with version control (Git), containerization (Docker/Singularity), and reproducible research practices.
