Job description
NovaBio Research Institute is recruiting a Senior Research Scientist in Genomics & Bioinformatics to join a mission-driven team focused on translational genomics and precision medicine. This role emphasizes scientific leadership, innovative data analysis, and collaborative project management in a fast-paced academic environment.
In this role you will design and execute genomic experiments, develop robust computational pipelines, and drive interdisciplinary collaborations to turn complex datasets into publishable insights that advance science and patient outcomes.
We offer a competitive compensation package, a supportive research culture, and opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and grant writing success.
Responsibility
- Lead experimental design, implementation, and optimization of genomic and transcriptomic studies (e.g., WGS, RNA-seq, scRNA-seq).
- Develop, validate, and maintain scalable data analysis pipelines (alignment, variant calling, expression analysis, integrative multi-omics).
- Perform rigorous statistical analyses and visualization to extract actionable insights from large-scale datasets.
- Collaborate with wet-lab scientists, clinicians, and data scientists to translate findings into publishable manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students, postdocs, and technicians; provide training on best practices and tools.
- Prepare and contribute to grant applications, progress reports, and internal/external presentations.
- Ensure research compliance, data integrity, and safety protocols across lab activities.
Qualification
- PhD in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Statistics, or a closely related field (or equivalent research experience).
- 3+ years of post-graduate research experience in genomics and bioinformatics, with a strong publication record.
- Proficiency in Python and R for data analysis; experience with SQL and data visualization tools.
- Hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing data (WGS, RNA-seq, scRNA-seq) and associated analysis pipelines.
- Experience with workflow management systems (Snakemake, Nextflow) and version control (Git).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines; good project management and mentoring abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and translate complex results into clear scientific narratives.
