Aurora Press is seeking a results-driven Publishing Editor to lead editorial strategy across our fiction and non-fiction programs. This role suits a meticulous, collaborative professional who loves shaping voices that resonate with diverse audiences and driving high-quality publishing outcomes.
As a Publishing Editor, you will work closely with editors, designers, marketing, and production teams to guide manuscripts from submission through final production, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compelling storytelling.
Responsibility
- Lead editorial strategy for assigned programs and guide manuscript development from first submission to final proofs.
- Manage end-to-end publication timelines, production schedules, and cross-functional collaboration with editing, design, production, and marketing teams.
- Evaluate submissions, conduct manuscript assessments, and negotiate acquisitions within budget and strategic goals.
- Oversee copyediting, line editing, proofreading, and quality assurance to ensure factual accuracy and consistency.
- Develop and maintain metadata, indexing, and digital publishing workflows; ensure accessibility and SEO-friendly content.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with authors, agents, and external editors; provide feedback and coaching to authors.
- Monitor market trends, reader insights, and sales data to inform editorial decisions.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years in publishing editorial roles, with a track record of successful acquisitions or published titles.
- Exceptional editorial judgment, copyediting, proofreading, and fact-checking skills.
- Experience managing multi-title programs and production workflows; strong project management abilities.
- Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), digital publishing tools, and metadata standards (ONIX, schema).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building with authors and agents.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment; strong time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of current market trends in publishing; data-driven decision-making.
