Aurora Press is seeking a Senior Editor to lead editorial initiatives across our print and digital catalogs. This role blends strategic vision with hands-on editing, ensuring our content meets the highest standards of clarity, accuracy, and reader engagement.
In this role, you will oversee editorial calendars, manage a team of editors and contributors, and uphold brand voice across multiple channels. You will collaborate with production, design, marketing, and rights teams to deliver compelling, accessible content for diverse audiences.
Ideal candidates possess a track record of editorial leadership in publishing, a meticulous eye for detail, and a passion for nurturing authors and content that informs, inspires, and engages readers. Hybrid or on-site in New York City options are available.
Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end editorial process for print and digital products, from concept through publication.
- Develop and manage editorial calendars, ensuring timely delivery and cross-functional alignment.
- Edit and copyedit manuscripts, chapters, and long-form content for accuracy, voice, and readability.
- Coordinate with authors, agents, editors, designers, and production teams to maintain quality standards.
- Oversee metadata, indexing, and catalog management to support discoverability and SEO.
- Mentor junior editors and freelancers, providing constructive feedback and training.
- Collaborate with marketing and rights teams to optimize publication strategy and audience reach.
- Uphold accessibility, diversity, and inclusion standards across all content.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field.
- 5+ years of editorial experience in publishing, with proven leadership of a publishing team.
- Strong editing, copyediting, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress, Contentful) and desktop publishing tools (InDesign or equivalent).
- Knowledge of metadata, taxonomy, indexing, and SEO best practices for publishing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, project management, and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; hybrid or on-site NYC work arrangement.
- Dedication to quality and reader-focused content, with a passion for publishing trends and industry developments.
