Location: Pasadena, CA, with flexible hybrid options and access to world class observatories and collaborators.
Responsibility
- Lead data analysis for large-scale astronomical surveys and simulations
- Design and maintain Python based data pipelines for imaging and spectral data
- Collaborate with observatories to plan observations and optimize data quality
- Develop machine learning models for object classification and anomaly detection
- Prepare and publish findings in journals; contribute to conference talks
- Mentor junior data analysts and interns; conduct code reviews
- Build reproducible workflows with version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Manage data quality, metadata standards, and archival processes
Qualification
- PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Computer Science, or related field with strong research record
- Strong Python experience (numpy, scipy, astropy) and data analysis
- Experience with large datasets, SQL NoSQL, cloud computing (AWS or GCP) and HPC
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques for astronomy
- Experience with telescope data pipelines, FITS files, and VO standards
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and publication track record
- Ability to work in a fast paced, interdisciplinary team; authorized to work in the US
- Detail oriented with strong problem solving and project management skills
