Responsibility
- Oversee the end-to-end editorial process from manuscript evaluation to publication across multiple genres.
- Lead acquisitions strategy, evaluate proposals, and negotiate contracts with authors and agents.
- Coordinate with editors, designers, and production teams to maintain schedules and budgets.
- Ensure all titles adhere to house style and quality standards, including copyediting for grammar, consistency, and accuracy.
- Mentor and develop junior editors, interns, and assistants; conduct performance reviews and feedback.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to develop positioning, metadata, and pre-publication plans; optimize for discoverability.
- Maintain strong relationships with authors, agents, and external vendors to ensure smooth project delivery.
Qualification
- Bachelor degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years of editorial experience in a publishing environment, with a track record of acquisitions and successful titles.
- Exceptional editorial judgment, strong copyediting skills, and knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style or equivalent.
- Experience managing multiple titles and cross-functional teams in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Familiarity with digital publishing workflows, metadata optimization, and SEO best practices.
- Proficiency with publishing tools and project management software; comfort with budget tracking and scheduling.
