BlueCurrent Research & Fisheries Solutions is seeking a Senior Fisheries Compliance & Sustainability Officer to join our Seattle-based team. This role leads responsible fisheries management initiatives, ensures regulatory compliance, and partners with regional stakeholders to advance sustainable practices.
In this role, you will develop and implement programs that support stock health, monitor catch limits and bycatch, and translate complex data into actionable insights for industry, government partners, and the public. The ideal candidate combines scientific rigor with strong stakeholder engagement and project management.

Responsibility
- Lead the design and execution of fisheries sustainability programs aligned with NMFS, state, and tribal regulations.
- Oversee regulatory compliance, licensing, reporting, and enforcement coordination.
- Coordinate data collection and analysis on stock status, quotas, bycatch, and ecosystem impacts.
- Develop metrics and dashboards to monitor performance and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Foster collaborative relationships with commercial fishers, tribal nations, NGOs, and government agencies.
- Prepare annual sustainability reports, risk assessments, and grant proposals to support program funding.
- Provide training and guidance on best practices, data collection methods, and compliance requirements.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fisheries management, compliance, or sustainability programs.
- Strong data analysis skills with proficiency in Excel; experience with R or Python a plus.
- Experience with GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and stock assessment data interpretation.
- Thorough knowledge of US federal and state fisheries regulations (NMFS/NOAA and Washington Dept of Fish & Wildlife).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, written and verbal communication abilities; ability to translate scientific findings for diverse audiences.
- Grant writing and project management experience; experience managing budgets and timelines.
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work flexible hours as necessary.
