Responsibility
- Lead and coordinate stock assessment projects, including data collection, quality control, and analysis to inform harvest quotas and management measures.
- Design and supervise field sampling campaigns (boats, shoreside surveys, tagging, and telemetry) in collaboration with regional partners.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams, mentors junior staff, and ensure rigorous data documentation and reporting.
- Develop and implement statistical models (R, Python) and GIS analyses to evaluate ecosystem impacts and stock status.
- Prepare science-based reports, briefs for policymakers, and stakeholder presentations.
- Ensure compliance with national and regional fisheries regulations, permits, and safety standards.
- Identify funding opportunities, write grant proposals, and manage project budgets and milestones.
Qualification
- Master’s or PhD in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in stock assessment, fisheries management, or equivalent research roles.
- Strong statistical and programming skills (R, Python); experience with Bayesian methods is a plus.
- Proficiency with GIS tools (ArcGIS/QGIS) and spatial analysis.
- Proven track record of publishing scientific results and communicating complex findings to diverse audiences.
- Experience with field operations, boat safety, and permit compliance; valid maritime or lab safety certifications preferred.
- Excellent collaboration, leadership, and project management abilities; willingness to travel regionally.
- Strong communication and writing skills in English; ability to translate science for policy audiences.
