Responsibility
- Lead field data collection programs including stock surveys, catch sampling, and biological assessments in coastal and offshore environments.
- Design and execute statistical analyses to estimate stock status and trends using R and Python.
- Develop integrated reports and visualizations for stakeholders including managers, industry partners, and scientists.
- Coordinate with state and federal agencies on monitoring plans, permitting, and compliance activities.
- Mentor junior staff and supervise research assistants on data collection and analysis tasks.
- Lead grant writing and project management to secure funding for fisheries research and conservation initiatives.
- Communicate findings to diverse audiences through presentations, policy briefs, and public outreach.
Qualification
- Master or PhD in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in field based fisheries research and stock assessment.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and modeling with R and Python; experience with GIS tools.
- Strong data management skills and attention to quality control and reproducibility.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to translate complex science for non experts.
- Experience with regulatory processes, permits, and collaboration with government agencies.
- Commitment to ethical research practices and coastal community engagement.
