Responsibility
- Lead underwriting decisions for complex commercial lines (property, casualty, specialty) and determine policy terms, pricing, and coverage.
- Collaborate with brokers and clients to gather risk information, quantify exposure, and structure competitive, profitable policies.
- Analyze risk data, loss history, and market conditions to optimize risk selection and portfolio performance.
- Mentor and review work of junior underwriters; provide guidance on risk assessment and decision rationale.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal underwriting guidelines; maintain high-quality submissions.
- Prepare accurate quotes, terms, endorsements, and renewal packages; negotiate terms as needed to sustain profitability.
- Monitor risk concentration, emerging trends, and portfolio profitability to inform strategy and resource planning.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of commercial underwriting experience in a mid-to-large insurer or brokerage environment.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines, policy language, rating structures, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills; proficiency with data analysis tools and underwriting systems.
- Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities; proven client-facing experience with brokers and insureds.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, FCIP, or CAIB (or equivalent) preferred; commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
