Responsibility

  • Underwrite and rate commercial lines policies for mid-market and large accounts with authority, ensuring profitability and compliance.
  • Analyze risks using loss history, exposures, and financials; determine accurate pricing and coverage terms.
  • Collaborate with sales and brokers to structure tailored coverage that meets client needs while aligning with risk appetite.
  • Prepare and present risk assessments and recommendations to underwriting committees; document rationale in policy files.
  • Manage a portfolio of accounts with proactive renewal strategies, monitoring performance and loss trends.
  • Contribute to underwriting guidelines, process improvements, and training for junior staff.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company policy wording; maintain high quality control standards.
  • Mentor teammates and support cross-functional initiatives to enhance service delivery.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, or related field; professional designations (CPCU, ARM, AIC, or similar) preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience, with deep knowledge of property/casualty, GL, BOP, or workers' compensation lines.
  • Strong analytical skills, data-driven decision making, and proficiency with rating engines and underwriting software. SQL or data analysis skills a plus.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management abilities with brokers and clients.
  • Solid understanding of insurance regulations and policy language; ability to interpret complex terms and coverage gaps.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment; track record of achieving growth while managing risk.
  • Proficient in MS Office and digital collaboration tools; comfortable with CRM and workflow systems.
