We are seeking a skilled Insurance Underwriter to join our New York City team and help us elevate risk selection and client outcomes. In this position you will assess risks, price policies, and collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to craft competitive terms while maintaining profitability and regulatory compliance.
Responsibility
- Evaluate new and renewal applications to determine risk, coverage, and appropriate pricing.
- Collaborate with brokers and internal teams to develop clear policy terms, endorsements, and exclusions.
- Analyze exposure, review policy forms, rating plans, and ensure accuracy of quotes.
- Ensure underwriting decisions comply with internal guidelines and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Manage end-to-end underwriting workflow in our policy administration system and maintain accurate records.
- Provide exceptional client service by explaining decisions, addressing questions, and supporting brokers throughout the process.
- Identify opportunities to optimize the portfolio for profitability and risk management.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, risk management, or a related field
- 3+ years of underwriting experience in commercial or personal lines
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, policy forms, rating plans, and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with underwriting software and data tools (eg Guidewire, Duck Creek, or similar) and MS Excel
- Analytical mindset with excellent numeric and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service abilities
- Licensed to practice insurance in New York or ability to obtain required licenses
