Responsibility
- Underwrite complex commercial and personal lines risk with accuracy, ensuring alignment with product guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate exposures, analyze financials, and determine pricing, coverage, and exclusions that balance risk and profitability.
- Collaborate with brokers and agents to collect essential information and provide timely, transparent decisions.
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, rating plans, and supporting documentation.
- Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to ongoing training and professional development.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging trends, and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, AML/KYC standards, and privacy requirements; participate in internal and external audits.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives to improve processes, data quality, and pricing accuracy.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, risk management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of underwriting experience in commercial and/or personal lines with a proven track record of profitability and risk control.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements, loss runs, and actuarial data.
- Proficiency with underwriting software, rating systems, and MS Office; experience with CRM and data analytics tools.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with brokers and clients.
- Professional designations (CPCU, ARM, AIC) and state licensure preferred; active NY licensing a plus.
- Ability to work independently and within a team; strong time management and organizational skills.
