Responsibility
- Analyze and underwrite commercial insurance applications across multiple industries, including property, casualty, and specialty lines.
- Assess risk exposures, review policy terms, conditions, and pricing to balance client needs with company profitability.
- Collaborate with brokers, risk managers, and internal teams to gather information and finalize quotes and endorsements.
- Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, rating models, and coverage recommendations in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Mentor junior underwriters, review submissions for quality, and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify trends, and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies in all submissions.
- Represent the company in client meetings, renewals, and renewal negotiations to strengthen relationships.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience in property, casualty, or specialty lines.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, rating systems, and policy construction.
- Proficiency in underwriting software (e.g., Guidewire, Applied Epic) and MS Excel; data-driven decision making.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills; ability to explain complex decisions clearly.
- Active P&C license in New York or ability to obtain/transfer quickly.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality submissions.
