You will evaluate complex applications, determine risk acceptability, and ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines while focusing on profitability and client service.
Responsibility
- Assess complex commercial and personal lines applications and determine risk acceptability
- Quote, structure, and bind policies while ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines
- Collaborate with brokers to gather information and communicate decision rationale
- Review policy terms, endorsements, and exclusions to optimize coverage and profitability
- Develop and maintain underwriting standards and guidelines
- Mentor junior underwriters and support staff
- Analyze portfolio risk and monitor loss trends to inform pricing
- Partner with claims and actuaries to refine pricing models
Qualification
- Bachelor degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or risk management
- 5+ years of underwriting experience in commercial or personal lines
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, policy forms, endorsements, and rating plans
- Proficiency with underwriting systems and MS Excel; experience with Guidewire or Applied Systems is a plus
- Excellent analytical, decision making, and communication skills
- Professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, or CIC
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines
- Customer-focused mindset with brokers and clients
