Job description

NovaShield Insurance is seeking a results-driven Senior Underwriter to join our growing Commercial and Personal Lines team. You will assess risk, structure quotes, and collaborate with brokers to deliver tailored coverage that protects clients and meets profitability targets. This role blends underwriting expertise with strategic relationship management in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Responsibility

  • Evaluate and underwrite commercial and personal lines risk using established guidelines to ensure profitability and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships; provide timely quotes, coverage options, and clear policy language.
  • Collaborate with Actuarial, Claims, and Underwriting leadership to adjust pricing, terms, and endorsements.
  • Lead renewal processes, identify cross-sell opportunities, and negotiate terms that protect both client and insurer interests.
  • Review policies, endorsements, and rating plans; ensure accuracy, binding authority, and adherence to policy wording.
  • Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to underwriting guidelines, audits, and quality control initiatives.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and internal policy adherence while delivering exceptional client service.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, or a related field; equivalent work experience considered.
  • 5+ years of underwriting experience in commercial and/or personal lines.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines, rating systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with underwriting software and policy administration systems; advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation abilities; strong broker relationship management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; highly organized with keen attention to detail.
  • Professional designations (CCIU, CPCU, AU) are preferred.
