NovaTech Innovations, a leading AI and hardware tech company, is seeking a Senior Intellectual Property Counsel to lead the strategy, management, and execution of our global IP portfolio.
In this role, you will partner with product, engineering, and business teams to protect critical innovations, reduce risk, and maximize value through patents, trademarks, and licensing.
Responsibility
- Develop and execute global IP strategy across software, hardware, and AI products.
- Lead patent prosecution and office action strategy for high-value inventions; manage interactions with external counsel.
- Oversee trademark and brand protection, enforcement, and portfolio maintenance worldwide.
- Perform IP due diligence for partnerships, collaborations, acquisitions, and investments.
- Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses and competitive IP landscape assessments to inform product roadmaps.
- Negotiate and draft licensing, cross-licensing, and collaboration agreements with partners and licensors.
- Coordinate IP risk management and enforcement activities, including liaison with litigation teams as needed.
- Mentor and develop the in-house IP team and provide training to cross-functional teams on IP best practices.
Qualification
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one US jurisdiction.
- Minimum 8 years of in-house or law-firm experience in intellectual property, preferably within a technology-driven company.
- Proven track record in patent prosecution across software, hardware, and AI technologies; strong USPTO experience and international filing experience.
- Solid knowledge of trademark, copyright, and licensing law; experience with IP portfolio management on a global scale.
- Experience conducting IP due diligence, FTO analyses, and competitive intelligence to inform business decisions.
- Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Experience managing external counsel and leading a small in-house IP team; exposure to licensing negotiations is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field is preferred.
