Job description

Join a premier technology company as a Senior Intellectual Property Counsel in San Francisco. You will lead global patent and trademark strategy, manage IP portfolio, and collaborate with R&D teams to protect and maximize the value of innovative products.

We seek a strategic, hands-on attorney with a strong technical background, fluent in patent prosecution, licensing, and IP analytics. You will partner with cross-functional teams across geographies to drive risk-aware innovation and strategic partnerships.

Responsibility

  • Develop and execute global IP strategy for patents and trademarks across product lines and regions.
  • Manage patent prosecution lifecycle, including drafting, filing, office actions, reexaminations, and appeals with USPTO and international offices.
  • Oversee trademark clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and portfolio management; advise on brand strategy and enforcement.
  • Lead IP due diligence for acquisitions, partnerships, and licensing negotiations; identify and mitigate IP risks.
  • Collaborate with R&D and product teams to identify patentable inventions and perform freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Negotiate, draft, and manage IP licenses, cross-licenses, and technology transfer agreements; manage external counsel as needed.
  • Mentor junior IP attorneys and specialists; provide training on patent/trademark processes and best practices.

Qualification

  • Juris Doctor and active bar admission in the United States (or equivalent) with no disciplinary history.
  • 7+ years of intellectual property experience with a strong emphasis on patent prosecution; electrical engineering, computer science, or related technical degree required.
  • Proven track record in USPTO patent prosecution and international patent offices; experience with trademark clearance and portfolio management is a plus.
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills for licenses, technology transfers, and collaboration agreements.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills; ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external counsel.
  • Experience in fast-paced tech environments, M&A support, and IP risk assessment.
