We are seeking a Senior IP Counsel to join our Boston team and lead a dynamic patent and trademark portfolio for a range of clients in software, hardware, and life sciences.

In this role, you will collaborate with R&D, product, and business leaders to shape IP strategy, oversee drafting and prosecution, and guide licensing and due diligence efforts. You will manage external counsel, own portfolio metrics, and mentor junior team members in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibility

  • Lead drafting, filing, and prosecution of patent applications across software, electronics, and related domains for a diverse client base
  • Develop and manage IP portfolio strategy, FTO analyses, and patent landscapes to inform product roadmaps
  • Provide clear, actionable IP counsel to product teams on freedom to operate, infringement risk, and design around strategies
  • Coordinate with outside counsel, manage budgets, and ensure timely milestones and maintenance fees
  • Identify and pursue licensing opportunities, technology transfers, and collaboration agreements
  • Monitor competitive IP activity and conduct regular portfolio reviews to optimize value
  • Mentor and develop junior IP attorneys and paralegals, fostering a culture of excellence

Qualification

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar admission in good standing in MA or USPTO registration
  • Minimum 5 years of patent prosecution and IP strategy experience, preferably with software, hardware, or biotech focus
  • Demonstrated success in drafting and prosecuting high-value patent portfolios and managing relationships with corporate clients
  • Strong understanding of USPTO rules, patent law, and international IP considerations
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills; ability to translate complex concepts for nonlegal stakeholders
  • Experience with IP licensing, due diligence, and technology transfer agreements
  • Project management skills with ability to manage multiple matters, budgets, and deadlines
