Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end patent prosecution and strategy for a diverse tech portfolio, including AI, software, hardware, and biotech offerings.
- Manage and coordinate trademark clearance, enforcement, and portfolio maintenance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to assess freedom-to-operate, IP risks, and licensing opportunities in new products and partnerships.
- Conduct and direct IP due diligence for acquisitions, investments, and strategic collaborations.
- Draft and negotiate IP-related agreements (licenses, assignments, R&D collaborations, cross-licensing).
- Oversee IP litigation support, manage external counsel, and develop cost-effective strategies.
- Provide training and mentorship to internal teams on IP best practices and risk mitigation.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and patent landscapes to inform business strategy.
Qualification
- J.D. from an ABA-approved law school; active bar admission in California or eligible for admission upon transfer.
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in intellectual property law with a focus on patent prosecution and trademark management.
- Proficiency in patent lifecycle, from prior art search to issuance and post-grant proceedings.
- Strong technical background in computer science, electrical engineering, or related fields; advanced degree a plus.
- Experience drafting and negotiating IP licenses, NDAs, R&D agreements, and strategic partnerships.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, prioritize effectively, and interact with senior executives and external counsel.
- Experience with global IP strategy and regulatory requirements preferred.
