BeaconBridge Media is hiring a Senior Investigative Journalist to lead high-impact, data-driven reporting from our New York newsroom. We seek a skilled storyteller who can transform complex records into compelling narratives that illuminate public accountability and drive change.
In this role, you will collaborate with editors, data analysts, and multimedia teams to develop investigations from idea generation through publication and impact follow-up. You will excel at building trusted sources, navigating legal and ethical considerations, and delivering rigorous reporting under tight deadlines.
Responsibility
- Develop and execute investigative stories from idea to publish, including data collection, verification, sourcing, and editorial review.
- Collaborate with editors, data journalists, and multimedia teams to ensure accuracy, fairness, and impact.
- Analyze public records, court filings, datasets, and FOIA requests to uncover evidence-based narratives.
- Conduct in-depth interviews, cultivate trusted sources, and manage on-record and off-the-record conversations with sensitivity and ethics.
- Deliver compelling storytelling across print, digital, and video formats, including data visualizations and interactive elements.
- Manage a quarterly pipeline of investigations, mentor junior reporters, and meet aggressive deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, respond to corrections, and maintain transparency with audiences.
Qualification
- 5+ years of experience in investigative journalism or equivalent.
- Proven track record of data-driven reporting, statistical analysis, and strong sourcing.
- Excellent storytelling ability with meticulous attention to accuracy, fairness, and ethics.
- Proficiency in data tools (spreadsheets, databases) and at least basic data journalism workflows; familiarity with FOIA requests.
- Experience collaborating across desks, editors, and multimedia teams; ability to work under deadline pressure.
- Strong communication, interviewing, and collaboration skills; comfort with on-record and confidential sources.
- Availability to travel for field reporting as needed; commitment to newsroom deadlines.
