NorthStar Media Group is seeking a Senior Investigative Journalist to lead and execute ambitious reporting that informs and protects the public interest. Based in New York City, you will collaborate with editors, data teams, and freelancers to uncover truth, verify facts, and craft compelling narratives across print, digital, and multimedia formats. This role offers a hybrid schedule in NYC and opportunities for national exposure.
As a senior reporter, you will own complex investigations from conception to publication, mentor junior reporters, and engage with audiences through live events and social media while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end investigative projects from idea generation to publication.
- Develop story pitches, plan robust data-driven analyses, and manage newsroom collaboration.
- Build and maintain a network of reliable sources; verify information and documents.
- Coordinate with editors, photographers, and video teams to produce multimedia stories.
- Explain complex issues clearly for diverse audiences; ensure accessibility and impact.
- Mentor junior reporters and contribute to newsroom training.
- Meet tight deadlines and adapt to breaking news while preserving accuracy.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of reporting experience, with demonstrated investigative work.
- Strong sourcing network and ability to build new ones.
- Proficiency in data journalism and multimedia storytelling; experience with databases and basic analytics.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling with AP style.
- Exceptional verification, ethics, and fact-checking practices.
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to deadlines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
