Verdant Counsel Group is seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Consultant to join our New York City practice. You will guide multinational clients on contract strategy, regulatory compliance, and risk management, delivering pragmatic, business-focused advice that aligns legal risk with commercial objectives.

Responsibility

  • Lead complex contract reviews and negotiations for commercial agreements, ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and favorable business terms.
  • Provide proactive regulatory guidance across sectors including financial services, data privacy, and employment law.
  • Draft, negotiate, and finalize terms to protect clients while achieving commercial objectives.
  • Perform due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships; prepare comprehensive due diligence reports.
  • Conduct thorough legal research using Westlaw/LexisNexis and translate findings into practical recommendations and memos.
  • Support policy development, compliance programs, and governance frameworks for client organizations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership on high-stakes negotiations and risk assessments.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and paralegals; promote best practices, training, and knowledge sharing.

Qualification

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; active New York bar admission or willingness to transfer.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate law, regulatory affairs, or contract counseling.
  • Proven track record negotiating complex contracts for multinational clients and handling regulatory matters.
  • Strong analytical, research, and drafting skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client-relations abilities.
  • Experience with privacy/compliance frameworks (GDPR/CCPA) is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements, prioritize tasks, and deliver practical solutions on tight timelines.
  • Proficiency with legal research platforms and MS Office; comfortable working remotely with occasional on-site meetings in NYC.
