The Seattle Public Library is seeking an engaging and innovative Senior Librarian to oversee digital collections, reference services, and community learning programs. This role combines digital preservation, user-focused service, and collaborative project work to expand access to information for all patrons.
As a member of our Library Services team, you will foster inclusive programs, support local heritage initiatives, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
Responsibility
- Lead and coordinate the management of digital collections, digitization workflows, and the library's institutional repository to ensure long-term access.
- Deliver exceptional reference services, information literacy instruction, and research assistance across in-person and remote channels.
- Collaborate on metadata creation and cataloging using standards such as MARC, Dublin Core, and MODS to improve discovery.
- Plan and implement community outreach, programs, and partnerships to promote library resources and digital literacy.
- Contribute to collection development, acquisitions, and weeding with an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens.
- Manage projects, track metrics, and report outcomes to leadership; mentor staff and interns.
Qualification
- MLIS or MLS from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of librarianship experience, with a focus on digital services and reference.
- Strong knowledge of metadata standards (MARC, Dublin Core, MODS) and discovery systems.
- Experience with digitization, digital preservation, and repository platforms.
- Excellent instruction, reference, and information literacy skills; able to teach diverse audiences.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and project management abilities; experience supervising staff or volunteers.
