Beacon City Libraries is seeking a proactive Senior Librarian to join our Research & Collections team in vibrant Boston. This role centers on delivering outstanding reference services, curating high-impact collections, and advancing information literacy across the community.
As a lead member of the team, you will collaborate with librarians, educators, and partners to support learning, research, and lifelong curiosity. You will steward physical and digital collections, oversee metadata quality, and shape user-centered programs that empower patrons of all ages.

Responsibility
- Provide reference and research assistance to a diverse patron base, including in-person, phone, email, and chat support.
- Develop, evaluate, and weed collections across multiple formats to meet community needs and local priorities.
- Lead cataloging, metadata creation (MARC/RDA), and authority control to ensure accurate discovery and access.
- Plan and deliver information literacy instruction, workshops, and classes for varied audiences.
- Oversee digital assets, institutional repositories, and the libraryβs discovery layer or ILS integration.
- Collaborate with faculty, schools, and community partners on programs, exhibits, and outreach initiatives.
- Monitor usage, analyze trends, and report on collections and service impact to leadership.
Qualification
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or an ALA-accredited equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of professional librarianship experience, with a focus on reference, cataloging, or instruction.
- Proficiency in cataloging through MARC, RDA, and authority control; experience with OCLC or similar systems.
- Experience with ILS/workflow platforms (e.g., Ex Libris Alma/Primo, Koha, Evergreen) and discovery layers.
- Strong information literacy and user instruction skills; proven ability to facilitate engaging learning experiences.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills; ability to balance multiple priorities.
