Velocity Automotive Solutions is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead EV powertrain design for our next generation vehicles in Detroit. This role blends hands on engineering with strategic system optimization, collaborating with cross functional teams to deliver high value, safe, and scalable solutions for a dynamic automotive market.
You will own key aspects of powertrain architecture, thermal management, and reliability testing, driving innovation from concept through validation and production support.
Responsibility
- Lead EV powertrain architecture development including motors, inverters, and transmission concepts.
- Own thermal management strategies to ensure reliability and efficiency across operating envelopes.
- Collaborate with electronics, software, and test teams to validate designs using DOE, FMEA, and rigorous testing.
- Translate customer and regulatory requirements into robust design specifications.
- Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
- Support supplier selection, prototyping, and DFM principles for scalable production.
- Contribute to vehicle level system integration and validation in lab and field tests.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Electrical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in EV powertrain design or vehicle propulsion systems.
- Strong proficiency with CAD tools, MATLAB/Simulink, and modeling of thermal and electrical systems.
- Experience with DOE, FMEA, IE, and automotive quality standards.
- Excellent problem solving, communication, and cross functional collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to lead projects and mentor teammates in a fast-paced environment.
