Job description
We are seeking a skilled Senior Meteorologist to join our applied meteorology team. This role focuses on weather prediction, climate analysis, and model evaluation to support clients across energy, aviation, and public sector sectors. You will collaborate with data scientists, forecasters, and software engineers to deliver accurate forecasts and actionable insights.
As a senior member of our team, you will lead forecast development efforts, oversee quality assurance of meteorological data products, and mentor junior staff. You will also contribute to publishable research and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
Responsibility
- Lead the development and refinement of numerical weather prediction models and forecast products.
- Analyze weather patterns, climate data, and model outputs to deliver accurate forecasts.
- Collaborate with data science, GIS, and software engineering teams to deploy weather intelligence tools.
- Communicate forecast uncertainty and risk to clients via presentations and dashboards.
- Create and maintain documentation, SOPs, and QA processes for meteorological data workflows.
- Support real-time weather monitoring and alerting systems for critical operations.
- Publish methodological notes and contribute to internal and external research reports.
- Provide mentorship and training for junior meteorologists and analysts.
Qualification
- Master's degree or PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or related field.
- 5+ years of professional meteorology experience in forecasting, analysis, or research.
- Strong experience with numerical weather prediction models (WRF, GFS, ECMWF) and data assimilation techniques.
- Proficiency in Python and R; experience with MATLAB; data visualization skills (Tableau, Power BI) a plus.
- Experience with GIS and meteorological data formats (NetCDF, GRIB).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex weather information to non-technical audiences.
- Proven track record delivering forecast products for energy, aviation, or public safety sectors.
- Collaborative mindset with ability to work across disciplines and travel occasionally if needed.
