Responsibility
- Plan and monitor safe passage for all assigned voyages, including route selection, weather risk assessment, and contingency planning.
- Operate ECDIS, ARPA radar, AIS, and automated watchkeeping systems to maintain situational awareness.
- Maintain bridge watch and ensure compliance with COLREGs, SOLAS, and company safety policies.
- Coordinate with port authorities, pilots, and vessel traffic services to secure smooth arrivals and departures.
- Conduct navigational risk assessments and implement mitigations for adverse weather or restricted waters.
- Lead and mentor junior officers; deliver targeted training and drills on navigation procedures.
- Prepare and review voyage plans, weather routing, and post-voyage reports for performance optimization.
- Ensure accurate logbooks, bridge procedures, and documentation for audits and inspections.
Qualification
- Bachelorβs degree in Nautical Science, Marine Transportation, or equivalent
- STCW endorsed as Officer in Charge of Navigational Watch (OICNW) with valid compliance for international voyages
- Minimum 5 years of navigational watch experience on ocean-going vessels
- Proficiency in ECDIS, ARPA radar, GPS, radar, and AIS with hands-on voyage planning experience
- Strong knowledge of COLREGs, SOLAS, MARPOL, and bridge resource management
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills; ability to train junior crew
- Proven ability to work under pressure, conduct risk assessments, and maintain accurate logbooks
