Job description

We are seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to design, validate, and scale packaging solutions for consumer products. You will collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to optimize packaging performance, cost, and sustainability. This role is based in New York, NY with hybrid options and a focus on delivering high-quality, scalable packaging solutions across the product lifecycle.

In this role you will drive packaging concepts from concept to launch, ensure materials and processes meet quality and regulatory requirements, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize packaging performance and cost.

Responsibility

  • Lead the design, testing, and validation of primary and secondary packaging for new products from concept to launch.
  • Optimize packaging for cost, performance, and sustainability, reducing material use and waste.
  • Collaborate with R&D, quality, and manufacturing to define specs, BOMs, and conversion processes.
  • Manage packaging equipment and processes, including validation, installation, and maintenance.
  • Conduct risk assessments (FMEA), packaging testing (ISTA, drop, vibration), and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Develop supplier relationships, select materials, and oversee vendor trials and qualification.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and NPI timelines to meet milestones.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years in packaging design/development, preferably for consumer goods.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials (flexible, rigid plastics, fiber) and testing methods (ISTA, drop, compression).
  • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and creating specs and BOMs.
  • Familiarity with GMP/regulated environments and quality systems; Six Sigma or lean knowledge is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Vendor management and supplier qualification experience.
