Join Aurora Publishing Group, a leading publisher of literary fiction and non-fiction. We are seeking a Senior Publishing Editor to spearhead editorial strategy, oversee major titles, and guide a cross-functional team to deliver high-quality work on deadline.
In this role, you will collaborate with authors, agents, designers, and marketing to shape content from manuscript to market.
Responsibility
- Direct the editorial process for a portfolio of 8-12 titles annually, from acquisition through final manuscript and publication.
- Collaborate with authors, agents, and editors to shape concepts, contracts, and publication timelines.
- Develop and manage editorial calendars, ensuring on-time delivery and budget adherence.
- Lead a cross-functional team including copy editors, designers, and production staff to maintain quality standards.
- Guide manuscript evaluation, acquisitions, and negotiation strategies to secure high-impact titles.
- Oversee QA proofreading, fact-checking, and editorial style across all formats (print and digital).
- Partner with marketing and sales to optimize positioning, metadata, and pre-release campaigns.
- Mentor junior editors and contribute to organizational content strategy and workflow improvements.
Qualification
- Minimum 5 years of editorial experience in trade publishing, with a track record of successful titles.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Journalism, or a related field.
- Strong project management and multi-title leadership abilities.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills with authors, agents, and partners.
- Demonstrated experience with digital publishing, metadata optimization, and CMS platforms.
- Detail-oriented editor with rigorous standards for accuracy, voice, and style (AP/Chicago or house style).
