Northbound Press is seeking a Senior Publishing Editor to lead our editorial calendar, manage a team of editors, and oversee the development of high-quality content across print and digital platforms. This role blends strategic planning with hands-on editing, ensuring our titles meet the highest standard of storytelling and accuracy.
In this role you will collaborate with authors, designers, and marketing to shepherd manuscripts from concept to print and online publication. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in publishing, exceptional editorial judgment, and strong leadership skills.
Responsibility
- Lead and mentor a team of editors, writers, and interns to deliver on-time, high-quality manuscripts
- Develop and manage editorial calendars across print and digital channels
- Oversee manuscript evaluation, structural editing, fact-checking, and copyediting
- Collaborate with designers, production, and marketing to ensure cohesive packaging and positioning
- Work with authors on development edits and respond to feedback with clarity
- Ensure adherence to house style guides, style sheets, and ethics standards
- Negotiate rights and permissions, and coordinate with legal for clearance as needed
- Analyze readership data and market trends to guide future acquisitions
Qualification
- Minimum 7 years of experience in publishing or a related field
- Expert editorial judgment with strong storytelling, structure, and copyediting skills
- Experience leading editorial teams and managing multiple titles
- Knowledge of print production processes and digital publishing platforms
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management
- Proficiency with style guides (AP, Chicago) and fact-checking
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
