Pulse Media Group is seeking a talented Staff Reporter to join our New York City newsroom. You will chase stories that inform, engage, and inspire readers across our local and national audiences. The ideal candidate thrives on speed and accuracy, can develop sources, and consistently delivers compelling, well-sourced journalism in a fast-paced environment.
You will report on breaking news, government, culture, and feature stories, collaborating with editors, photographers, and digital producers to create multimedia packages that live across print, web, and social platforms.
Responsibility
- Cover breaking news with speed, accuracy, and fair context
- Own and develop a beat in local government or culture
- Produce clear, engaging stories in AP style with tight nut graf and compelling leads
- Collaborate with photographers, editors, and producers to package multimedia content
- Verify facts using public records, databases, and reliable sources
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community members and official sources
- Edit and fact-check colleagues' contributions and contribute to digital storytelling and social distribution
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of professional reporting in a newsroom
- Proficiency in AP Style; strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to develop sources and manage a beat
- Experience with CMS, digital storytelling, and basic data journalism
- Strong news judgment, deadlines, and ethical integrity
- Knowledge of NYC communities and public records access; FOIA experience a plus
- Multimedia experience (photo/video) is a plus
