Job description
EcoNova Environmental Services is seeking a results-driven Waste Management Specialist in Chicago, IL. This full-time role partners with operations, safety, and sustainability teams to design and implement waste reduction, recycling, and regulatory compliance programs that protect people and the environment.
Responsibility
- Develop and implement waste management strategies that reduce landfill volume and lower costs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (EPA, DOT, RCRA).
- Coordinate hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, transportation, and disposal with licensed vendors.
- Perform data analysis on waste streams, generate dashboards, and report KPIs to leadership.
- Lead recycling initiatives, waste segregation programs, and employee training sessions.
- Prepare permit applications, site inspections, and internal audit readiness.
- Collaborate with facilities and operations to optimize waste collection routes and equipment utilization.
- Drive continuous improvement through Lean/Six Sigma methodologies and sustainability metrics.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or 5+ years of equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in waste management, environmental compliance, or related domain.
- Strong knowledge of EPA, DOT, RCRA regulations; experience with permits and reporting.
- Experience with data analytics tools (Excel, Power BI, or similar) and waste tracking systems.
- Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
- Certification such as CHMM, CEA, or NEBOSH is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed.
