Job description

Harvard University’s Philosophy Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Philosophy, beginning Fall 2026. We seek applicants with a strong research agenda in ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, or related areas, and a record of exceptional teaching.

We value interdisciplinary work and research that engages with contemporary philosophical issues, as well as a demonstrated ability to teach a diverse student body. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate core courses, graduate seminars, and supervise theses, while pursuing an active program of peer-reviewed publication and external funding where appropriate.

Responsibility

  • Teach a dynamic load of undergraduate and graduate courses in philosophy with emphasis on pedagogy and inclusivity.
  • Develop and supervise undergraduate theses and graduate theses or capstone projects.
  • Mentor students and participate in advising and student development activities.
  • Maintain an active program of scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Seek external funding and grants to support research and curriculum development as appropriate.
  • Contribute to service duties within the department, college, and university, including committee work.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to foster interdisciplinary inquiry and innovation.
  • Participate in curriculum development and program assessment to improve student outcomes.

Qualification

  • PhD in Philosophy or related field by start date.
  • Evidence of significant scholarly publications and conference presentations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with a record of student success.
  • Ability to teach core courses and supervise undergraduate and graduate theses.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and research practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and curriculum development is a plus.
  • Demonstrated potential for securing external funding or fellowships is desirable.
