Bethany College of Theology invites applications for the position of Associate Professor of Theology. We seek a scholar-practitioner who will advance rigorous theological inquiry and contribute to the formation of students for leadership in church and society. The successful candidate will teach across undergraduate and graduate programs, mentor students, advise theses, and engage in community and interfaith initiatives.
This is a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment with responsibilities in teaching, research, curriculum development, and service to the college and wider scholarly community. Applicants should demonstrate a record of scholarly publication, excellence in teaching, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in theological education.
Responsibility
- Teach core theology courses and elective seminars across undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Develop innovative, inclusive curricula that integrate biblical studies, systematic theology, and ethics.
- Supervise student research, theses, and capstone projects; provide mentorship and career guidance.
- Engage in scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals; present at conferences.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, accreditation processes, and program assessment.
- Participate in service to the college, including committee work and community outreach programs.
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds and faith traditions.
Qualification
- PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in theology, religious studies, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Evidence of strong teaching excellence and a track record of student mentorship.
- Active research agenda with publications in reputable journals or presses; ability to secure external funding is a plus.
- Ability to teach across a broad range of theology subfields (biblical studies, systematic theology, church history, ethics).
- Strong communication skills and commitment to inclusive pedagogy and diverse learning environments.
- Experience with online or hybrid teaching modalities and curriculum development; willingness to embrace technology-enhanced learning.
- Commitment to service, collegial collaboration, and faith-based education aligned with institutional values.
