SummitStone Construction is hiring a Construction Estimator to join our Portland, OR team. We specialize in commercial, multifamily, and industrial build projects with a focus on quality, safety, and on-time delivery.
As the Construction Estimator, you will collaborate with project teams to develop accurate cost models, produce competitive bids, and support project procurement from preconstruction through final closeout.

Responsibility
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications using approved estimating software and BIM tools.
- Develop robust cost estimates, including direct and indirect costs, labor, equipment, and subcontractor quotes.
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, and subcontractors to refine scopes and mitigate risk.
- Analyze bid documents, identify risks, and create value engineering options to optimize project profitability.
- Prepare bid proposals, assist with bid tabulations, and assemble complete, clean bid packages for clients.
- Maintain vendor and subcontractor relationships, solicit competitive quotes, and manage subcontractor prequalification.
- Assist in procurement planning and coordination during preconstruction and early construction phases.
- Monitor and update estimates as plans evolve to reflect scope changes and market conditions.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field; or 5+ years of proven estimator experience in construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction cost codes, takeoffs, and estimating methods.
- Experience with estimating software (PlanSwift, ProEst, Bluebeam, or equivalent) and BIM tools (Revit).
- Proficiency in MS Excel and data analysis for budgeting and reporting.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and specifications; detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of local Portland market conditions, subcontractor base, and procurement timelines is a plus.
- Commitment to safety and quality, with a track record of ethical bidding and compliance.
