Join our exclusive network of experienced sports referees in London. This CONTRACT role offers flexible scheduling across local leagues and tournaments. We seek impartial, communicative officials who uphold the highest standards of fairness and safety.
As a referee you will ensure accurate rule enforcement, maintain game flow, and foster sportsmanship on and off the field. You will communicate decisions clearly to players and coaches, manage on-field incidents, and document match events for records and compliance. Travel within the Greater London area is common; compensation is per match with clear onboarding guidelines.
We welcome referees across multiple sports, including football, basketball, and other team sports. Prior certification and match experience are highly valued.
Responsibility
- Officially start and end matches, ensuring accurate timekeeping and adherence to sport rules.
- Enforce rules, call fouls and penalties, and manage stoppages consistently and fairly.
- Communicate decisions clearly to players, coaches, and staff; manage on-field conduct and resolve conflicts calmly.
- Maintain safety and game integrity by monitoring equipment, field conditions, and player readiness.
- Collaborate with assistant referees and officials to ensure smooth game administration.
- Complete post-match reports, logs, and incident notes for compliance and archival records.
- Stay updated on sport rules and league guidelines; participate in ongoing training and evaluations.
- Uphold professional standards and ethics, representing the organization with integrity.
Qualification
- Qualified referee with current certification (UK-recognized level) and valid safeguarding/DBS if required.
- Proven match officiating experience across local leagues or tournaments.
- Excellent physical fitness and stamina to sustain long officiating periods.
- Strong knowledge of sport rules and ability to apply them consistently under pressure.
- Clear, respectful communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work with diverse teams and maintain impartiality at all times.
- Proficiency in using basic match administration tools and record-keeping.
