Job description
JTE Recruit is seeking a results-driven Design Engineer (Mechanical) to join our dynamic engineering team in the Central Region. This role focuses on designing robust mechanical components and assemblies for manufacturing equipment and automated systems. You will partner with product management, electrical engineering, and fabrication vendors to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions that meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of concept development, 3D CAD modeling, tolerance analysis, and technical documentation. You will advocate for design-for-manufacturing (DFM/DFMA) principles, drive design reviews, and support prototype builds, tests, and validation campaigns. You will also manage change requests, release drawings, and bill of materials while ensuring on-time delivery to production and customers.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust designs, selecting materials and components, performing stress analyses, and validating designs against performance criteria. You will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, optimize existing products, and ensure designs comply with quality standards and safety guidelines. Strong communication, problem solving, and project management skills are essential for success in this role.
What we offer: competitive salary, supportive team culture, and opportunities for professional growth within a growing regional engineering practice. If you are passionate about mechanical design and enjoy turning concepts into tangible, reliable products, this role is for you.
Responsibility
- Lead mechanical design from concept through production for assigned projects.
- Develop 3D models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, GD&T reviews, and BOM management.
- Perform DFx/DFM/DFMA analysis and drive design-for-manufacture and assembly improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Electrical, Manufacturing, QA, Purchasing) to ensure feasibility and quality.
- Support prototypes, testing, validation, and design verification activities.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, change orders, and release packages.
- Manage project timelines, communicate status, and escalate risks as needed.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of mechanical design experience in product development or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks highly preferred; experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar is acceptable).
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and BOM management.
- Experience with manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, castings, plastics) and design for manufacturability.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation, change management, and PLM tools.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with ability to work under deadlines.
- Knowledge of materials selection, mechanical testing, and validation methodologies.
