We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Archivist to join our team at HeritageVault Archives, a premier institution dedicated to preserving cultural heritage for future generations. You will lead digital preservation initiatives, manage archival metadata, and ensure accessible, long-term access to our collections.
In this role, you will collaborate with librarians, IT, curators, and researchers to design scalable archival workflows and implement best practices across physical and digital records.
Responsibility
- Oversee ingestion, accessioning, preservation, and access workflows for digital and physical archives.
- Develop and enforce metadata schemas (Dublin Core, EAD, METS, PREMIS) and ensure accurate cataloging across systems.
- Manage digital preservation strategies, including format migration, backups, and integrity checks.
- Lead migration projects from legacy systems to modern platforms (e.g., ArchivesSpace, Archivematica) with minimal disruption.
- Collaborate with IT to implement secure, scalable access portals and disaster recovery plans.
- Produce finding aids, guides, and user-focused documentation to support researchers and staff.
- Conduct audits and quality control to maintain data integrity and retention compliance.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, or a related field; MLS/MLIS preferred.
- 3+ years of professional archival experience, with emphasis on digital preservation and metadata.
- Strong knowledge of metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, METS, PREMIS) and archival systems (e.g., ArchivesSpace, Archivematica).
- Experience with cataloging, accessioning, and creating finding aids; familiarity with EAD/XML is a plus.
- Understanding of data privacy, retention schedules, and compliance frameworks.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
- Technical aptitude for scripting or automation (e.g., Python, SQL) is a plus.
