Job description

NovaGrid Energy Systems is seeking a talented Electrical Power Engineer to join our Houston team. This role focuses on designing, analyzing, and delivering robust electrical power systems for utility-scale projects, renewable integrations, and industrial facilities. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to create efficient, compliant, and reliable energy solutions that power communities and industries.

As a pivotal member of our engineering group, you will translate client needs into scalable designs, perform critical analyses, and guide projects from concept through commissioning. We foster innovation, safety, and excellence in every project.

Responsibility

  • Lead electrical power system design for grid interconnection, generation, and distribution projects.
  • Perform power system studies (short-circuit, load flow, harmonics) using ETAP, SKM, or PSS/E.
  • Specify and evaluate equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and control systems.
  • Develop protective relay schemes and protection coordination with utilities and EPC partners.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulators, and construction teams to support site visits, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
  • Ensure compliance with standards such as IEEE, NEC, IEC, and NERC CIP; manage documentation and testing protocols.
  • Lead or contribute to energy storage, solar, or wind integration projects as needed.
  • Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and project schedules for stakeholders.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical power systems design and analysis.
  • Proficiency with power system software including ETAP, SKM, and PSS/E.
  • Hands-on experience with HV/MV switchgear, transformers, cabling, protection relays, and SCADA interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of standards such as IEEE, NEC, IEC, and NERC CIP.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; proven ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and with clients, utilities, and contractors.
  • Professional engineering licensure (PE) is a plus.
