Job description

NovaGrid Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Power Engineer to join our design and engineering team in Austin, TX. This role focuses on utility-scale and renewable energy projects, delivering robust power systems design from concept through commissioning.

As part of our cross-disciplinary team, you will design and optimize power distribution, protection schemes, and interconnection strategies that meet stringent reliability and safety standards. Responsibility

  • Lead electrical power system design for utility-scale projects including HV/LV distribution, switchgear, cabling, and protection schemes.
  • Conduct load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash analyses using ETAP, SKM, or PSSE.
  • Develop and review electrical one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and design deliverables.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical teams and clients for interconnection and grid code compliance.
  • Perform grid interconnection studies and renewable integration analysis (wind/solar, storage).
  • Support procurement, construction, and commissioning activities; provide field support and commissioning testing.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NERC reliability standards, and the latest industry practices; mentor junior engineers.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; master's preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical power systems design for utility-scale or industrial projects.
  • Proficiency with power system analysis tools (ETAP, SKM, PSSE) and protection relay coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NERC reliability standards, and grid interconnection processes.
  • Experience with HV/LV switchgear selection, cables, transformers, and protective relays.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills; ability to lead teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% and work in a collaborative, client-focused environment.
