NovaGrid Solutions is seeking an experienced Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Houston team. You will design, analyze, and optimize electrical power systems for grid modernization, renewable integration, and industrial facilities.
What you will do is apply advanced power system knowledge to deliver robust, scalable solutions. You will lead studies, develop protection schemes, perform relay coordination, conduct short circuit and load flow analysis, specify equipment, and support commissioning. You will collaborate with cross functional teams to guide projects from concept through implementation. Responsibility
- Lead electrical power system studies including load flow, short circuit, transient analysis, and protection coordination
- Design and specify power system components such as transformers, switchgear, protective relays, and SCADA interfaces
- Develop and validate protection schemes and relay settings to ensure reliability and safety
- Model power systems using ETAP, SKM, PSS/E or equivalent tools; produce reports and diagrams
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and utility partners to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Support field engineers during commissioning and troubleshooting and provide remote or on site assistance as needed
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, and NESC and adhere to QA processes
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Masterβs preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering in utility or industrial settings
- Strong knowledge of power system analysis and protection coordination; experience with relay settings
- Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, PSS/E or equivalent; MATLAB/Simulink is a plus
- Experience with switchgear, transformers, protection relays and communications interfaces
- Familiarity with IEEE, NEC, and NESC standards; strong documentation skills
- Excellent communication and project management abilities; able to lead cross functional teams
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
