Join Tonasco as an Engineering Assistant Manager for Mechanical Machining and lead a team of engineers delivering high precision, efficient and innovative manufacturing solutions. Based in Bukit Jelutong, Selangor, this role blends technical leadership with hands on process optimization to drive world class machining operations.
In this role you will oversee CNC machining processes, fixture design, and tooling strategies to ensure tolerance compliance and optimal production rates. Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, design and procurement to implement continuous improvements that reduce waste, increase uptime and shorten lead times.
You will lead capability studies, establish standard work, deploy Lean practices and support new product introductions. You will mentor engineers, review machining parameters and fixturing strategies, and champion data driven decision making through key metrics such as overall equipment effectiveness, scrap rate and first pass yield. The role requires strong technical judgement, proactive problem solving and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibility
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers focused on CNC machining processes to deliver precision components.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality and procurement to optimize workflows, reduce cycle times and improve on time delivery.
- Develop and enforce process controls, standard operating procedures and capability studies to ensure repeatable quality across shifts.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies; monitor KPIs such as OEE and scrap rate and implement countermeasures.
- Plan and oversee tooling and fixturing strategy, fixture design, preventive maintenance, and first article inspection.
- Lead new product introductions and engineering changes, providing technical guidance on machining parameters and tolerances.
- Ensure compliance with quality systems such as ISO 9001 and maintain thorough documentation for audits.
- Provide mentorship and development opportunities for junior engineers and technicians.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 6+ years experience in mechanical machining with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
- Hands on experience with CNC turning and milling, with familiarity in programming and setup on common controls such as Fanuc, Siemens and Haas.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and metrology and inspection methods including CMM; experience with capability studies.
- Proven track record leading continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma) and delivering measurable results.
- Excellent cross functional collaboration, project management and communication skills; ability to lead in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience with tooling selection, fixture design and process validation for high mix low to mid volume production.
- Strong analytical mindset, data driven decision making and problem solving skills.
- Detail oriented with commitment to quality, safety and compliance standards.
