Galleria Legacy Arts is seeking a proactive and visionary Fine Arts Curator to lead exhibitions, manage artist relationships, and elevate visitor experience at our NYC gallery. This full-time role blends curatorial strategy with operational leadership in a dynamic cultural institution.
As the Curator, you will shape ambitious, thematically cohesive exhibitions, curate compelling wall texts, supervise installation processes, and collaborate across departments to maximize audience engagement and institutional impact.
Responsibility
- Develop and execute exhibition concepts from idea to installation, including thematic research, object selection, and display strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with artists, lenders, gallerists, and cultural institutions for loans and partnerships.
- Oversee scholarly cataloging, wall texts, didactics, and interpretive content to guide visitor understanding.
- Lead coordination with Registrar, Education, Marketing, and Operations to ensure on-time installation and launch events.
- Manage budgets, timelines, and vendor contracts; ensure conservation and proper handling of artworks.
- Lead audience engagement programs, talks, and inclusive accessibility initiatives.
- Drive fundraising and grant opportunities in collaboration with leadership and development teams.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in Art History, Museology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience considered.
- Minimum 5 years in curatorial, exhibition management, or equivalent role in a gallery or museum.
- Strong knowledge of modern and contemporary art with international scope preferred.
- Experience with loan negotiations, conservation coordination, and condition reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; proven ability to develop catalog texts, wall labels, and grant proposals.
- Proficiency with collections management systems and digital asset management; familiarity with artwork documentation standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work collaboratively across teams, and meet tight deadlines.
